Digital Agenda: Tuesday, 9/3!


Do Now (10 mins):
First, copy your homework in your Agenda:
1. Finish your 5 step lesson cycle for the article "Freedom Riders" at home.
2. Study foreign words for your quiz tomorrow, use quizlet link.

Next, copy each sentence.  Answer on p. 10L of your Interactive Notebook.  

  1. What happened at the end of the story?  How does Little Man react to receiving the old book?

On the left side of your desk, make a pile of  your open Agenda and homework.  I will check this while you are writing.

Objectives:  Students will...

-analyze the effect of the qualities of the character on the plot and the resolution by identifying direct and indirect characterization on a graphic organizer and annotating while reading.

-assess the main idea of a reading passage and make connections between 2 or more texts by summarizing in their own words.

Socratic Seminar: Why does Little Man react to receiving the old book the way he does?  Use evidence from the text and the historical context.



Independent (25 mins):

  1. When you finish, go to teenbiz3000.com

  5. Choose English and Literacy from the dropdown menu
  6. Click on Mailbox
  7. Open the article from Teacher Hansen called "Freedom Riders"
  8. Click on "Start Lesson"
  9. Vote in the "Before Reading Poll" and explain your choice in a complete sentence
  10. Read and listen to all vocabulary words, then close that window
  11. Read and listen to the article using your headphones.
  12. Click "Next" and complete the activity
  13. Vote in the "After Reading Poll" and look at the results
  14. Click "Next" and complete the thought question, be sure to use evidence to prove your ideas.

Digital Agenda: Thursday, 8/29 and Friday, 8/30!


Do Now (10 mins):
First, copy your homework in your Agenda:
1. Finish reading "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" from your packet.  Highlight clues that help your make a connection to the historical context.
2. Write sentences for words #11-20 on a piece of binder paper.
3.  Write back to your PenPal.  Answer their questions.  Tell them:
- about the story we're reading
-what you want to be when you grow up and why
-ask them what they want to be and why

Next, copy each sentence.  Write the meaning of the underlined foreign word on page 9L of your Interactive Notebook.  Use the words in the sentence as clues...
