Digital Agenda: Monday 8/19 & Tuesday 8/20!


Do Now (10 mins):
First, write your homework in your Agenda and leave it open.

Next, copy each question and answer in a complete sentence on page 5L of your Interactive Notebook.  Who is the person or subject of each sentence?  Who is talking?

  1. I want to be a social worker, so I plan to study sociology at UCLA.
  2. Sandra Cisneros studied at Loyola University Chicago.

On the left side of your desk, make a pile of Agenda and homework.  I will check this while you are writing.

Objectives:  Students will...

identify the forms and characteristics of fiction and first- or third-person narration by reading historical fiction, narratives, and poetry and taking notes on group presentations using a graphic organizer.

Standards:

Reading 3.1 Structural Features of Literature: Identify the forms of fiction and describe the major characteristics of each form. 


Reading 3.5 Narrative Analysis of Grade-Level-Appropriate Text: Identify the speaker and recognize the difference between first- and third-person narration (e.g., autobiography compared with biography).


Whole Class (last 20 minutes):

Group presentations and note-taking on Realistic Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, Historical Fiction, Informational Text, Nonfiction: Biographies and Autobiographies, Poetry, Traditional Literature


Collaborative Station (45 mins):

Your group will be assigned a genre and must create a poster using the guidelines and rubric  Each member will have a role:

-Group Leader: Leads the group in getting started, keeps group focused and productive.
-Materials Manager: Gets materials and supplies
-Presenter: Shares poster with the class on Monday/Tuesday.
-Recorder: Writes and illustrates the poster.


Independent (45 mins):


  1. Go to teenbiz3000.com
  2. Type your username (5 digit number in lower left-hand corner) and password from your EdElements card
  3. Choose English and your class period from the drop down menu
  4. Read each passage and answer each question
  5. Remember, try your best!  The better you do, the more questions you get!
  6. Go to http://quizlet.com/12810302/week-3-types-of-fiction-and-story-elements-flash-cards/ to get some extra practice with your types of text.
  7. First, click the right arrow through the cards.
  8. Next, play Learn.
  9. Last, play Scatter.

Exit Slip (5 mins):

Write a $2 summary of the paragraph on the screen.
